Discover, Learn, and Enjoy From The Los Angeles County Arboretum.

June 10, 2020

The Los Angeles County Arboretum has partnered with LA County Parks & Recreation and has submitted a proposal to the LA County Health Department that details plans for safely operating small group summer camps beginning in June.  While a response is still forthcoming, we are hopeful that we will receive approval to proceed with our onsite  camp program.

If allowed to host onsite summer camp, several protocols will be put in place to provide a healthy, meaningful, and enjoyable learning environment for our children.  This means that there will be new modifications to ensure the safety and well being for ALL of our students; which will include morning wellness checks, social distancing, no shared supplies, heightened sanitation, and most importantly, weekly groups of campers no larger than 10 children. We are committed to do all of these things to ensure a meaningful experience for campers and provide them with a fun and educational opportunity to help prevent summer learning loss, ease the stress of containment, and foster joy.

The projected date for commencement is June 15th, pending approval from the County.  While we are not permitted to accept any formal registrations, payments, or deposits towards onsite programs until  restrictions are lifted, we know many parents are eager to secure potential space in summer camps.  As such, we have created a “placeholder” list whereby parents interested in registering for camp may informally reserve a spot for their children, space permitting,  which will be changed to a formal reservation if we proceed, at which point payment would be required.  We realize that the current situation is tenuous, and as such, we want to be as flexible and supportive with parents as we are asking them to be with us.   This means that there will be no penalty if parents join the placeholder list and determine closer to the date of camp that they would like to withdraw their reservation.  We are in this together, partners working to ensure the safety and happiness of our community’s children.

If you would like to reserve a space on the placeholder list, please email brooke.applegate@arboretum.org with the following details:  Your name, phone number, email address; Your child(ren)s’ name, age, t-shirt size.  Please note that space is extremely  limited due to the requirement to only host camp groups of 12 or less children, and spaces will be held on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you would like more information, or to discuss our plans for summer camp, please feel free to call me at (626) 821-5897.   A full list of Arboretum Summer Nature Camps can be found here:  https://www.arboretum.org/learn/camp-for-kids/summer-nature-camp/
